The wedding season is on in North India and there is nothing better to wear than punjabi dress made of all kinds of summery fabric. There are hundreds of designs and colours to choose from and one is spoilt for choice. Both men and women dress in formal and casual punjabi dresses not just for Indian weddings but also to beat the summer heat.
I particularly enjoy wearing from a wide range of Punjabi dress, at events and work and the colour of my choice is white. The fabric can be linen or cotton and I pick really light colours. I do however like a splash of colour so I pair my white punjabi dress with a very bright dupatta. The whole ensemble looks wonderfully sober and elegant.
For weddings however I like to go for heavier fabric and brighter colours. I have to attend seven different weddings this month and I have picked out a range of colours and designs for me and my partner to wear. I have already been to one and I wore a beautifully embroidered sky blue punjabi dress and my partner wore a kurta and pyjama and paired it with a Nehru jacket in a darker shade. I picked comfortable wedges to make me look taller in the punjabi dress and my partner wore leather flats.
My partner likes darker colours and likes to wear browns, blacks and blues during summer. He does prefer very light and comfortable fabric like linen and cotton for his punjabi suits. Earlier women were the only one who were spoilt for choice but now a days there are so many options for men that it can be hard to decide what to wear.
Punjabi suits for women can be paired with a lot of wonderful accessories. Rajisthani jooties for example are simple, ornate and classy and go beautifully with a patiala suit.
Men can also pick similar jooties to go with their summer kurtas but they have lesser design options. However, many companies in India are no focusing on creating beautiful jooties that go well with any outfit, however, they look best with any kind of kurta or punjabi dress. Other accessories that a girl can pick to go with her punjabi dress is handbags and clutches. There are a range of colours and designs in different price ranges that look completely out of the world. If you pick neutral or darker colours you can use just one bag for several occasions.
I prefer really light makeup during summer and usually go with lots of SPF to protect my skin from the harsh summer sun. I live in Delhi and the temperature is touching 46 degrees. The most comfortable outfit for a day out is a super light salwar in white or cream paired with a short kurta in a similar colour or print. I usually completely skip a dupatta or a stole because it’s extremely hot. However, sometimes a dupatta does come handy in covering your head and face when you are trying to protect yourself from the sun.
When you are shopping online you have a wide range of options and clothes to choose from so give your summer closet a complete revamp and pick things that will keep you comfortable everyday or during a special occasion.
Happy Summer shopping!
