It was a relaxed Sunday afternoon in the peninsula city. St. Regis was the venue for the launch of California Walnut Month in Mumbai, which will see a walnut ‘takeover’ throughout the month of November. California Walnuts in association with the FBAI held a lovely afternoon of beers and walnuts at the Zenith and Anais rooms all the way up.
In addition to the beers, at least eight dishes were in circulation throughout the room. They weren’t your usual starters, but specially crafted walnut dishes. Scrumptious would be one way to put it, and surprisingly delightful, another. Some of these dishes included walnuts coupled with chicken, avocados, beetroot, goat cheese, potatoes and more. Who knew walnuts were such a versatile ingredient?
Further proving that point was chef Paul Kinny (Director of Culinary, St. Regis Hotel, Mumbai), who whipped up a creamy walnut soup through a live demonstration. He was also the man behind the crafting of the dishes that were on offer. It was a short and sweet demo, as were the other talks by some of the partners involved. Sameer Malkani, co-founder, FBAI, informed us that more than 50 partners throughout the city will feature dishes incorporating the California walnuts, especially bar food. These partners include restaurants, bars, home chefs, delivery joints, cloud kitchens, etc.
The main course was a heady mix of oriental goodness, including a fine laksa curry soup. A lush spread of salads and cold cuts was enough to satisfy any palate. In addition to all of this, attendees took home a goodie bag, which contained a fine bunch of cookies. All in all, it was a sublime Sunday, definitely worth stepping out for.
