scooter-1642998_1280.jpgDelhi, the city we all love to call home, is like a time capsule holding in it fascinating stories from 6th century BC till today. The one quality that has enabled Delhi not only to survive but thrive and flourish is its adaptability. Its adaptability to be modern and accept new ideas wholeheartedly is among its best virtues.

The challenge hence becomes to continue this and make Delhi 21st century ready. The idea of a ‘smart’ Delhi is brilliant and the initiatives that are being taken truly deserve mention.

NDMC has been working on a project will ensure all services by using the app. This is part of a wider initiative of governing through the use of technology by the government. One of the primary ideas is to have a 311 app that will digitize a host of services including household complaints, birth and death certificates, payment of water, power and property tax and so on. It will even have real-time smart parking systems which will facilitate parking payments using digital payment.

Though the app is fully functional now, it will also include features like bus schedules by year end. It will not only engage the citizens but using technology will be used by officials for real time monitoring of complaints and issues in general.

Another key initiative is to make smarter public toilets accessible to everyone. Public toilets are crucial in such a densely populated city as Delhi. These toilets will have solar panels for minimal electricity consumption, vending machines, water ATM’s and even a user feedback mechanism.

Other initiatives like smart poles are being erected all around the city that will have sensor lights which will save a huge amount of electricity within the city. These poles will have many facilities like Wi-Fi, CCTV cameras etc.

Today’s data driven smart world is not possible without companies like Vodafone, that invest in the infrastructure that enable people to use their phones for governance.

In fact, Vodafone has come up with many other initiatives that make it a data leader. Vodafone is digitally connecting Delhi & NCR with Free Wi-Fi Zones: There are more than 120 such hotspots across Delhi & NCR such as DLF Mall of India, Fortis Hospital, Delhi Haat, Khan Market, Airport, etc.

Also, Vodafone having a huge reach can lead this app being available to the most number of people. Vodafone is the choice of 1.2 crore customers in Delhi and NCR: 1.2 crore customers use Vodafone in Delhi NCR, which is almost half the population of Delhi. Vodafone receives 1 customer appreciation every 30 seconds.

Air purifiers are also a huge part of reducing pollution, and in fact even the Delhi government has decided to install outdoor air filters to reduce the Pm 2.5 and PM 10 particles. In fact Vodafone has already begun a similar initiative within the bus shelters of Delhi. Vodafone has enabled many key initiatives for the betterment of Delhi & NCR. Vodafone created the first Air-Purifying bus shelter in the city so that people could breathe non-polluted air while waiting for a bus. Last year air pollution in Delhi had reached a new height, that’s when this initiative was undertaken.

In fact a brilliant campaign was started by them to provide its customers with green crackers or crackers that had in them seeds of plants that are air purifying like soya and tulsi. These Super crackers are filled with eco-friendly plant seeds. All one needs to do is plant it and let the plant bloom. This was also a key initiative taken in the wake of the Supreme Court banning fire crackers in the city.
