Travel Diaries: Shillong, Meghalaya – Day 4

My day started early. I went for a walk in Upper Shillong as it is colder and nicer up there.

From there I went to Ward’s Lake which is in the middle of the city. The canter staff is terrible and really impolite especially the person who sits at the till so it is best to avoid this place for tea, coffee or food. That said do not miss borting in the lake. The water is green but it’s quite pleasant to take a boat ride. They have all kinds of boats so pick the one that suits you the best!

From Shillong I went to Umium lake or bara pani. It costs around ₹700 by taxi to get to the lake but we had a self driv car so we spent a lot of time at the lake. The lake is breathtaking and it really made our day. They only book an 8-seater boat for ₹1200 and the ride is only 10 minutes so make sure you take a big group and pay extra for at least an hour as the breeze is brilliant.

After the lake it was time for some dinner. Service was really slow but dinner at Pine Wood Hotel was excellent. A meal for two without alcoholic beverages would cost ₹1500.
