Travel Diaries: Guwahati, Assam to Shillong, Meghalaya – Day 1

Most people get a pre paid cab from the airport to get to Shillong from Guwahati but Uber has come up with a flat rate of ₹1449 for its customers. You get a car as big as a swift dezire. We needed two cars because we had a lot of luggage but we couldn’t find another Uber. Ultimately we found a random guy at the taxi stand with an Innova who agreed to take us to Shillong for ₹3500. It seemed reasonable because the pre paid counter was charging ₹4500 for the same.

We cancelled the uber at the last minute but he was wonderful about it. He was an excellent guy and he deserves a special mention. Uber still rocks!

Our taxi driver promised to stop at a food joint on the way to Shillong because we were all very hungry. Trip advisor said that Jiva Veg is the place to pick. However, it was an hour away from Guwahati. We got really hungry on the way.

When we finally got to Jiva Veg we were amused at how neat and clean the place was and how perfect the toilets were. The restaurant was full. The food arrived in 20 minutes and was spicy but tasty.

We also stopped on the way to get some local pickles, pineapples and bananas. Don’t miss the pineapples in this area. They are the most slurpy and tasty pineapples you will ever eat.

We reached Shillong by 7:30, it takes 3 hours to get from Guwahati to Shillong if you don’t stop but we got down many times for photographs.
