Here are 7 places that are on my bucketlist!
- Cloud Covered Hills of Kodaikanal
Kodaikanal is known for its lush green valleys and laid back lifestyle. With a visit to the Berijam Lake, you can take in beautiful greenery, if you are a nature enthusiast, you’ll love the stunning flora and fauna that surrounds the lake. Popular activities at the lake include a visit to the fire tower, the medicine forest and gliding down the lake in a pedal boat. You could also have a splendid picnic on the lawns of Bryant Park. This 20 acres botanical garden is filled with several types of flowers, trees and shrubs and has over 740 species of roses.
- Araku Valley on Eastern Ghats
Located just 114 kilometres from the city of Vizag and close to the border of Orissa lies the Araku Valley. Go camping and enjoy bonfires at night as you stay up and share stories. This valley is also part of the Ananthagiri and Sunkarimetta forests that is rich in wildlife. Other nearby places that you can visit is the Borra Caves, Sangda Falls, Tyda and the Tribal Museum.
- Darjeeling’s Tea Estates
Darjeeling lies at the foothills of the Himalayas in West Bengal and is also known as the Queen of the Hills. Go ahead and try out some adventure sports like rafting, trekking and hiking. You can also go cycling around the city and spend time getting to know the city by interacting with the locals. Also, you can walk through tea plantations and capture great photographs of old plantation houses, tea gardens and the valley below.
- Pristine Kudremukh Forest
Visit the Kudremukh National Park and get a first-hand experience of the hilly forests, shola vegetation and coastal plains. The park covers three districts of Chikmagalur, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi. Another popular site is Kalasa which means water pot. This town is famous for the Kalaseshwara Temple which is the mythological wedding place of Shiva and Parvati. A drive to the Kudremukh Peak is worthwhile as you can trek up the peak and enjoy a breathtaking view of the Arabian Sea in the distance.
- Coorg Coffee Plantations
Find a homestay in a coffee plantation and feel right at home when in Coorg. You can visit the Abbey Falls and enjoy the gushing water of the Kaveri River cascade down the rockface. The Brahmagiri Peak is another scenic spot that has misty hills and thick woods. You can spot several animals like the lion-tailed macaque, nilgiri langur, giant flying squirrel and spotted deer.
- Snow Capped Peaks of Manali
Manali has a lot to offer and provides you with an experience that would last you a lifetime. The first thing to check off your bucket list is a drive to the Manikaran and Vashisht Village. Here you can experience hot sulphur springs firsthand. There is a lot in store for adventure seekers, as you can Heli-Ski, Snowboard and Ski. Another popular sport is rafting in Rishikesh and especially on the river Beas.
- White Sandy Goa Beaches
When in Goa, go beach hopping and visit popular sites like Bon Jesu in Old Goa and Dona Paula. The best places to beach hop in North Goa are Calangute, Baga, Anjuna, Vagator. Don’t forget to visit the south Goa beaches like Benauli, Colva, Varca and Agonda. You can also try your luck at the casinos in Panjim, party hard in Baga at a nightclub or put your feet up and enjoy the view of the beach from a beach shack.
