Cake mixing started as a ceremony somewhere in the 17th century. Mostly a home affair then, with the family getting together to cherish moments and begin preparations for the on coming festive season – mix dry fruits with wine and rum and storing them away for a month or two to be ready in time for the baking during Christmas, the ceremony has now become a social event, where people with interest in cooking and foodies get together to enjoy a few moments.
We recently attended this event at Park Plaza, NOIDA, with fellow bloggers. With a brief introduction about the ceremony by the executive chef we mixed dry fruits, spices and liquor – and lots of it.
Dry fruits were mixed with spices and rum & brandy and stored away for the liquor to soak into the dry fruits and enhance their flavors – which will then be used in Christmas cakes and other desserts over the coming months. The experience is great – the fun it is mixing kilos of dry fruits and pouring the bottles of liquor into them, lace them with the spices and mix and mix! Only if we could gobble up a few mouthful of these beauties!
