Dawat- E – Awadhi, Crowne Plaza, Okhla, New Delhi

Edesia, getting its name from the the Roman Goddess of Food or simply feast, is the global cuisine, all day dining restaurant at Crowne Plaza, Okhla, New Delhi. Offering a culinary journey with food from all over the world, Edesia is the culinary backbone of the centrally located hotel, offering its patrons tastes from around the world, under one roof. It was our first meal here, and we are more than impressed!

Dawat – E – Awadhi is the food festival that brought us here. The love for the cuisine blossomed in the by-lanes of old Delhi – relishing kebabs, biryanis and tikkas. The festival gave us a chance to rekindle that romance.

Part of the buffet (dinner only), Dawat – E – Awadhi gives you an array of dishes from the land of nawabs at the comfort of the lavish Crowne Plaza hotel.

Starting with a platter of vegetarian and non-vegetarian kebabs, tikkas and kathi rolls, we could easily guess the treat we were in for. The galauti kebabs – both veg. and non-veg. are amazing, especially the veg. ones, which are mostly dry, but not here. The fried chicken is amazing – if we knew we had to end my meal on it, we would have never stopped devouring the crunchy, juicy pieces.

From the tawa/grill section, it was chicken tawa masala and grilled pomfret. The pomfret is mildly spiced/marinated and retains the entire flavor of the fish.

For the main course, there are options aplenty – both veg. and non-veg. The vegetarian fare here is equally good – loved the palak mushroom malai; awadhi dum aloo, subz makhanwala and dal panchranga fared well too. Noorjahani Murgh, Shahjehani Karele Ki Nihari & Zaffrani Fish Curry adorned the non-veg. menu – the nihari could have been spicier, chicken and fish were great. The gosht biryani is good in taste, the mutton pieces could have been more tender.

How can dessert sections be ignored – the specials are coconut barfi, pineapple halwa, moong dal halwa, gajar ka halwa and jalebi with rabri – loved everything, specially the pineapple ka halwa – the sweet and sour delicacy!
