The Parsi new year marks the arrival in the new homeland. As it is said, no celebration of Parsis is complete without food – and to celebrate the occasion (Parsi new year) – the treat comes in the form of Bhonu. The Bombay Irani cafe, SodaBottleOpenerWala is a tribute to the dying legacy of a Bombay Irani Cafe – serving the best Parsi cuisine.
The specials are the vegetarian (INR 600++) and non-vegetarian (INR 700++) bhonu provide you an array of flavors to relish.
The vegetarian bhonu has saria (papad), salad shirazi, brinjal pickle, beetroot cutlet, masala ni dal, vegetarian pulav, kachumber, brinjal and drumstick curry and rotli to complete the meal. The brinjal pickle is finger licking and good – and I wanted to take a bottle home, if only they sold it! Beetroot cutlet is simple yet flavorsome, the pilav good, the masala ni dal is smoky and delicious. The brinjal and drumstick has a coconut based gravy, with the correct balance of sweetness and spices – very happy with this version of the veggies.
The non-vegetarian bhonu has mutton pilav – tender mutton pieces and those flavorful grains of rice make a wonderful pair, jardaloo chicken – chicken with apricot is intriguing, chutney eeda na pattice, which is egg cutlet as we call it.
The dessert menu has raspberry and white chocolate panacotta and sev – we loved the sev, lightly sweetned (no milk) but the raspberry and white chocolate could have been better – the white chocolate flavor was overpowered by that of raspberry’s and the consistency was a little on the liquidy side.
The event is on till August 21, 2016. The portions are good, so order wisely and take suggestions from the staff.
