Bao Wow Festival @ The Fatty Bao

Though it has been quite a time since The Fatty Bao opened its doors to the Delhi circuit, we decided to visit it for the ongoing Bao Wow festival. The restaurant boasts of an Asian menu; however the ongoing festival provides bounteous samples to try out their exclusive delectable baos. Keeping it simple, it is only a two page bao menu consisting of both vegetarian & non-vegetarian options.

The place is done up radiantly, with modern style graffiti donning the ceilings. Seating space is ample, also with a huge outdoor terrace for seating. Service was swift, and everything gets delivered with a smile.

Coming to the food, the baos are perfect and fillings are amazing. Whether it was Spicy Wild Mushroom & Chick pea bao drizzled with chili garlic mayo – packed with that punch or the Cheesy Kimchi potato bao from the veg. section; or the plethora of options in the non-veg section. Order the Char Grilled Lamb Meat Balls bao if you are in the mood for some smoky flavor; settle in for the Five Spice Fried Chicken bao for that juicy patty; if you fancy teriyaki, your choice would be Teriyaki Glazed Chicken bao. If you are looking for some proteins, call in for the Crispy Tofu and Soy bao. The only one needing a little improvement is the Smoked Cottage Cheese bao, where we felt the smoky flavor lacking.

Pork lovers will love the Pulled Pork bao, and specially the moments when the kaffir lime flavor bursts, ah! and the Char Siu bao – made with imported pork belly, green apple and BBQ sauce – pure bliss!

Wasabi Fish bao & Chilli Crab & Prawn bao don the seafood section of the menu and you must not miss them! The fish is crisp and the wasabi does wonders and the chilli crab and prawn just makes you forget everything else.
