The Flipkart Wish Chain – #AbHarWishHogiPoori

I just watched the new Flipkart Advert and fell in love with it.

Flipkart is all about making dreams and wishes come true and I am all for exploring my likes and dreams with this wonderful website. The idea is to create the first ever blogger wish chain in India. That has never been done before and I am really excited to be a part of this campaign.

I recently stumbled across Manasi’s blog and saw this picture of a lovely, peach coloured ‘Saree Gown’. The gown brought back memories of a beautiful and romantic city that I first visitedwhen I was a student: Paris. I remember getting so thoroughly lost in its magnificencethat I completely forgot about my friends.

I decided to explore the city on my own, and eventually found myself on the Boulevard de Magenta, a street lined with stores selling wedding dresses in different colours. I couldn’t stop photographing them. That was the first time I realised just how much I loved photography.

In the old days, photography was part art, part science. Photographers needed to be well-versed with their equipment, exposure times and of course the chemicals used for developing the plates and then later prints. Photography started out in black and white but what has always drawn me to the medium has been the colours!

I currently own a Nikon D90 and have enjoyed playing around with the settings to experiment with what I can achieve with a simple click!

Being a lifestyle blogger seems like a lot of fun but it isn’t just a walk in the park. A lot of thought goes into getting the right picture – the correct combination of light and shade, good angles, setting the right frame, knowledge of ISO, aperture and so on.

I was traveling, when a friend of mine called me in a tizzy. He had organised a concert which he had poured hours of work into and at the very last moment, his photographer had cancelled. He asked if I could help him out. I said I would love to but unfortunately I was not traveling with my DSLR and it was safely tucked away at home, many miles away. He said he’d figure out the camera, he just needed me to play photographer.

When I met him later that day, he delivered on his promise and handed over the beautiful Canon Mark III, which is probably one of the best cameras around. Immediately I began fiddling with the settings and photographing our meal, as you can see, everything looks gorgeous.

VIVA - HOLIDAY INN AEROCITY, DELHI

Suddenly what seemed like a favour for a friend became an opportunity to have a great time and take some beautiful pictures. I reached the venue at about 5 in the evening to scope out the location and find the best spots for my pics. As the sun began to set, I noticed that while the concert was decently lit for the audience, the light was nowhere to what I needed to shoot. My heart sank, I was looking forward to some amazing pictures but felt that without the proper light, my pictures would look mediocre, amateur-ish even. I think my feelings were pretty evident because my friend, gave my shoulders a reassuring hug and told me he would be happy with my work no matter what and more importantly, he had faith in me.

So I mustered up my courage and then through the concert, the camera surprised me, I took some great shots. I instantly fell in love with the camera’s astonishing low-light performance, and thought to myself, ‘this is truly a great piece of work and I can’t wait to own it.’

So what’s my wish? What I really want is to get this lovely camera and explore it for a month. I want to cover a lot of events around the city and focus on candid photography. I then want to take a photography class to understand this exquisite camera and its settings better.

Getting a professional camera isn’t all fun and games. It comes with a responsibility. Not everyone can afford this lovely camera and that’s why I want to make the most of owning it. I have only ever used the Canon Mark III once. Will I get the camera sometime soon? Thanks to Flipkart, that’s the plan!

I’ve told you what I wish for, what is it that you want? Let the ideas flow!
