The Grub Fest – 2015

There are food fests; and then there is the Grub Fest. The Grub Fest organized at New Delhi from April 3rd to April 5th was the invention of 4 young entrepreneurs. A grand affair that it was, with vibrant displays of gourmet food, gourmet markets, culinary workshops, it definitely was one event which Delhi will be looking forward to again.

The sprawling Jawahar Lal Nehru lawns – done up with kids area, seating lounges, entertainment zone with performing artists like Vir Das, Hari and Sukhmani etc. and two huge lawns for the participating restaurants – witnessed the most happening and packed food fest ever organized. More than 70+ participating restaurants along in bounteous area of display for different varieties of Gourmet products, ensured that the place was packed with food enthusiasts. People flocked, and there was no table available at any outlet. We did manage to grab a table at Dao and one at Nawabi and the food was delectable.

The fest showcased the best of flavors where the cuisine varied from Street food to high end dining. Participants included well-known names like The Lalit (food truck), L ’Opera, Smokey’s BBQ & Grill, FIO, NYC Pie to name a few. As far as the organization goes, hat’s off. The experience started well before we entered the premises. Well marked parking areas and shuttle service at every parking point, enough volunteers to guide you till the event premises is something I never have experienced in previous fests.

The Grub Theatre gave a platform to the guests to learn the signature dishes of master chefs – of the likes of Chef Vicky Ratnani, Chef Dhruv Oberoi, Chef Nishant from Dusit Devarana, Chef Jamshed of Tres & Chef Augusto of Townhall as well as taste their delicacies.

The Grub Market hosted different stalls having organically produced vegetables, salads, bakes, ice creams, honey etc. The area was packed with the shop-alcoholics who went back home with goodies to last forever.

Food and entertainment go side by side and the Grub Fest ensured that ensued. The DJs played foot tapping music to keep people engaged and a houseful performance by Vir Das kept the stadium thriving with laughter.

The Grub Fest is now going to open in Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune and Dubai and for sure the foodie lot will wait eagerly for the next version of #GrubFest in Delhi.
