The History of Keventers
Edward Keventer landed in Bombay in December 1889 as he was sent to India as an agent for the Alpha Laval Cream Separator. after carrying out demonstrations in Madras Calcutta, Patna Cawnpore, Allahabad, Nadiad and Bombay. He was employed by the government at Cawnpore and later Poona and Bombay where he started the first dairy of the Bombay and Gujrat dairy industry.
At the end of his term, he requested to be transferred to a place where the government owned cattle in order to be able to work with fresh milk. He was then posted to Aligarh, where he succeeded in making the dairy farm profitable which was ultimately sold to him in 1899.
In 1922 he formed a private company with his nephew Werner Keventer and three other friends and Keventer’s was born.
The Present Day Keventers
Girls and boys & people of all age groups good news – Keventers is now at Select Citywalk, so its time to get some delicious shakes. Keventers is Delhi’s answer to the exotic, rich and creamy shakes to beat the summer blues. The flavours are many, from chocolate to mint oreo to strawberry, vanilla, hazelnut, peanut butter shakes, etc. – you will be spoilt for choice.
Keventers has been serving us for years. It’s been around since I was a child. I still remember the outlet in CP and how people used to line up in front of it to get colourful glasses of milkshakes. Now they have a branch in Saket with new recipes and their signature shakes and guess what? There have ice creams too! It is a vintage dairy brand so its new look is classic but the touch of modern is super cool – the vintage theme – inspired!
Aman Arora and Agastya Dalmia, the young entrepreneurs responsible for setting up this branch, served delicious milkshakes in a glass bottles – just like old times.
We tried a variety of shakes- Mint Oreo Crumble, Hawaiian Passion, Tutti Frutti, Melting Roses, Caramello, Caramello, Strawberry Fields, Choco Peanut Butter & Chocolate Hazelnut. The Classic shakes were lip licking good too, we sampled the Butterscotch, Vanilla & Strawberry. I particularly liked Strawberry – an absolute must try. The shakes were great, extremely light and refreshing. They had just the right kind of flavour and consistency.
The outlet also had gelatos and classic shakes – all very tempting. We got to taste “DILLI JAMUN”, their classic recipe. The taste was soft and mushy like kheer , unusually delicious.
There will be more such outlets in Delhi soon, I can’t wait!
