The “Railway Mutton Curry” should not be missed!
During a blogger’s meet we asked for food to be delivered to us from Angrezi Dhaba Grill in Gurgaon. The bloggers meet was quite far away from the restaurant but the owner Rohan Sehgal, graciously agreed to send and serve us the food.
We started with kebabs, we as a bunch have an undying love for kebabs. We can never have enough of them. We had both vegetarian and non-vegetarian kebabs. “Paneer Tikka” was recommended by the Chef and was really soft and flavourful. The “Palak Makki ke Kebab” were also quite good.
I love meat. If there is meat I wouldn’t eat anything else but the Chef had managed to do quite a decent job with the vegetarian kebabs so I did have a bunch of those too. The “Bharwa Tangri Kebab” and the “Murg Malai Kebab” were marinated perfectly and were equally succulent and fresh.
The main course looked ever so mouth-watering.
The “Railway Mutton Curry” stole the show. The curry took us all back to the colonial era when this special mutton dish was served to the privileged few when travelling by train. However, this wasn’t served to everyone. It was served to only those who travelled by first class. This curry isn’t laden with a lot of spices and is quite flavourful and runny all at once. This special recipe was served in railway compartments and it was perfect for the British officials palate.
The “Butter Paneer Masala” went beautifully with rice. The rotis and naan were not as soft as one would have hoped but we were so awestruck by the plesant mutton curry that we were willing to overlook it all.
For dessert, we had some “Angrezi Dhaba Special Phirni” which was quite light.
It wasn’t your conventional “extra-rich-choke-your-throat-with-sugar” kind of phirni. It was a subtle end to our rather nice and satisfying meal. I would order the “Railway Mutton Curry” again for sure.
