Cafe Review: Qtalk, Tanjung Duren, Jakarta, Indonesia – 3.5/5 Stars

Qtalk is a very simple yet attractive bubble tea joint that also serves yoghurt, smoothies, coffee and desserts. I would have never known of Qtalk had I not shopped at Polo in Bali. I was at Tanah Lot to look at the beautiful sunset, which was also being photographed by a team of photographers from the National Geographic Channel/Magazine right at that very moment (wow!). For those of you who don’t know, Tanah Lot is a rock formation off the Indonesian island of Bali. It is home of a pilgrimage temple, the Pura Tanah Lot and a popular tourist and cultural icon for photography and general exoticism. It is as beautiful as it is romantic. It is the perfect spot to spend your evenings when in Bali. Well, I had a Qtalk voucher so I enjoyed my evening a little more. Apparently, when you spend over a million rupiah/IDR at polo you get a free beverage from Qtalk.

I tried my very first Qtalk bubble tea at Mall Taman Anggrek, Tanjung Duren, Jakarta. It took about 10 minutes to be prepared and was served to us in a giant sealed glass. We got two portions of their “Family Milk Tea”. This review is solely based on that.

I hated the family milk tea so much that I just couldn’t drink more than a sip. My partner on the other hand, loved it so much that he drank my glassful too. It was his very first time trying bubble tea and he felt it was refreshing, milky and light. I guess bubble tea is like marmite you either love it or hate it.

I think the best part about the tea were the huge Tapioca Pearls (Boba) that we sipped on using jumbo boba straws. The mild taste of tea and milk along with other flavours kind of put me off the whole thing. However, my partner loved the boba very much.

I give it 1/5 and he gives it 3.5/5.
