I am a very positive and sunny person and I tend not to hate anything. However, when it comes to food, I can be highly critical. I am inspired by people like Heston Blumenthal, who aren’t afraid of experimenting. Heston is one of the finest molecular gastronomists you would ever come across. I also love Shahrukh Khan who is so full of energy that it is infectious. Speaking of SRK, I love his spirit but he smokes like a chimney and isn’t afraid of leaving behind a varicose corpse. I adore food and I don’t care if I don’t fit in my coffin – same aim!
Eating four cakes in a day seemed quite ambitious, so, I invited a bunch of like minded people (you know those who didn’t care about dying fat) to join our Sunday “Cake Hogging Session – Episode 1”.
Beyond Breads home delivers in a sweet red Nano and seemed like the most interesting option on our list.
They delivered right on time – full marks there. The cakes came damage free, no smudging – brilliant. We opened the boxes and Voilà – Chocolate Lovers Cake, Chocolate Berry Cake, Fresh Fruit Cake and a Pink Sponge Cake with a light sponge and jam filling, emerged like a beacon of hope for all the hungry foodies in my condo.
The tasting session began with the “Pink Sponge Cake”. It was spectacularly fresh.
It wasn’t something I would order over and over again but it was quite a popular choice amount all the foodies.
The jam filling was quite delicious and the jam oozed out as we sliced the cake.
If you enjoy light sponge and loads of white chocolate, this is the cake for you.
The Chocolate Berry Cake was my favourite. It had been decorated beautifully – rich chocolate frosting and cherries (Drool, drool, drool).
I am not the biggest fan of Chocolate Cakes but this one, I would remember for a long time.
A close second was the Chocolate Lovers Cake.
The frosting was quite dry but the inside had soft molten chocolate that was runny and rich. The cake turned hollow from inside as everyone dug into the cake to enjoy the delicious richness that was the Choco Lovers Cake.
The last cake I tried was the Fresh Fruit Cake. Are you on a diet? If you are then the fruits on this cake are for you. Peeled oranges, kiwis, apples, pomegranates and a cherry – this cake was laden with fruits.
The sides had a light cream frosting and sprinkles of butterscotch. It had been decorated with green and red coloured white chocolate candy canes.
The staff at Beyond Breads is accommodating and cheery. Even thought they do not have a fully functional shop now, I suspect that very soon there will be one near you. Try their Home Delivery – Beyond Breads has something for everyone.
